Students just finished their spring All Day Write assessment.  All grades wrote in a different format of writing: third grade wrote an expository, fourth grade a narrative and fifth grade a persuasive.  A scoring team of district teachers, para professionals and administrators scored papers grades K-5 grade.  Writing samples will be shared with parents during spring conferences.

During the month of February, teachers will be administering the winter assessments to evaluate student progress.  Students will be given the following assessments:

• DIBELS  (reading fluency/retell)
• Math Computation test
• Sitton Spelling Words

 March 9th will be our next All Day Writing Assessment. 

Results from these assessments will be shared during Spring conferences in March

May you all enjoy time with your families and find time to rest and reflect on all the blessings the past year has brought your way.

On November 3, 2009, all Arcadia students spent the day creating a piece of writing on a given prompt.  After discussing the prompt, the students set out to produce an essay going through the entire writing process which included  a prewrite, a first draft, revision, editing and a final product. 

The papers were then collected and scored by a team of employee ranging from grades K-12.  They spent the day reading each paper and evaluating the writing on six different writing traits.  The papers were then shared with parents during conferences.

Schoolwide assessments are happening this month and should be finished by the end of the month.  Teachers will then meet to plan students individual instructional needs.

By the end of the school year, we would like:

• 3rd graders to be reading 110 words a minute with 97% accuracy on their reading
• 4th graders to be reading 118 words per minute with 97% accuracy on their reading
• 5th graders to be reading 124 words per minute with 97% accuracy on their reading
